The San Antonio metropolitan area has been named one of the Top 12 American Boomtowns, Bloomberg reported.

San Antonio, which experienced a five-year population growth of 10.26 percent and a gross domestic product compound annual growth of 1.47 percent, is the fourth-ranked city on the Top 12 American Boomtowns list. Bloomberg credited the oil-and-gas industry and the military presence as chief reasons for the metropolitan area’s growth.

The San Antonio area also had a March unemployment rate of 6.1 percent.

The Austin-Round Rock area ranked as the top metropolitan market with a compound annual growth rate of 3.26 percent. The Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown area ranked fifth with a compound annual growth rate of 1.55 percent. The Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington area ranked 12th with a compound annual growth rate of 0.84 percent.
