Ben Gets a Reboot

by admin on August 29, 2013

According to the U.S. Treasury the $100 bill is the most counterfeited bill of all the U.S. currency. It has been in the re-design process for over 2 years. The bill, which still pictures President Ben Franklin, has undergone many tests to make it as counterfeit proof as possible. Originally The Federal Reserve had an expected circulation date of early 2011. Part of the reason for the wait has been cited as a production error resulting in a bad batch on the new $100 bill. Spokesperson for The Bureau of Engraving and Printing described it as follows, “When too much ink is applied to the paper, lines of the artwork aren’t as crisp as they should be, like when a kid tries to carefully color inside the lines- using watercolors and a fat paintbrush.” This was a $3.79 million mistake between the cost of reprinting the bills and properly destroying them. The new bill features 3-D features and changing colors to make things a little more difficult for would be counterfeiters. The bill is scheduled to put into circulation in October of this year.
