Protecting Yourself This Season Part 5

by admin on December 13, 2013

If it Sounds too good to be true it probably is:

A free Holiday Trip to the location of your choice. Free air fare! Free hotel! All you pay is the $100 tax fee. Unless you’ve found yourself on an episode of the Price Is Right you’ve probably stumbled upon a scam. These sorts of scams promise a big return for a small investment, and are often in play year around. If you can’t help yourself and don’t want to miss out on the opportunity in case it is the real deal then do your research before you give them any information or a single penny. Minimize the screen (if it’s a computer ad or email) google the company name and see what information you can find. If it’s a scam, that is normally the first thing that will pop up. Message boards saying “Beware of this scam!” While consumers fully practice their right to give bad reviews throwing a word like “scam” around may be considered slander and isn’t thrown around too lightly. Remember the old saying “if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck it’s probably a duck” add another sentence “If everyone is calling it a duck it’s probably a duck.”

Other tips-

-Call any numbers to see if they belong to a real company.

– Write a letter and send it to the office asking for more information and see if you get a response.

-Read the fine print.

-Check the better business bureau.
